No Buy: Quick Styling Tips Using Items You Already Own

Hate to break the fourth wall but my analytics show that you like me better when I treat you as an audience as opposed to customers. That's good news as that's when I like you better too!

___HI GUYS, I'M SORRY I HAVEN'T MADE A BLOG IN A WHILE___
Hope that read in the tone I wanted it to? I want to apologise for letting my blog die during the last year (especially as it's only been running for two) but there have been many personal/professional reasons as to why anamaddock.com had to run its course. That's the thing about working for yourself, you and your "brand" stop existing as different entities and you never let yourself take a break.

So what have I been up to?
Mainly cutting ties with my management team™ and trying to go forward in life.**

So, here's a little about that: AKA
___THE ACTUAL POST___
I'm currently downsizing my wardrobe and maximising my styling tips as I pack up my life to film a very exciting project in New York(!) until London Fashion Week SS18. So naturally, thought I could share some of my go-to tips and tricks and hopefully if you like it, we could continue to actually do storytimes/ focus on styling/ talk photography- ie the things I actually do as opposed to being a "Blogger" and/or "Influencer".

___THE DRESS___
My wardrobe secret- my motto, and the one thing I always say to my clients is: Fabric, Fabric, Fabric. It's memorable, repetitive, an amazing ice-breaker, and once we've pushed past the initial consultation- they know exactly what I mean.
1. Fabric= quality
2. Fabric= aesthetically
3. Fabric= how does it drape/fit the body?

If I'm completely honest, the quality is fantastic, the print is fun, and the fit is wonderful- just not on me. This dress should have been given to charity a long time ago. But if there's one thing I have learned from Trashy Reality TV's Tim Gunn is that there's always a way to "Make it work!"
So if you can't bear to get rid of an item- all you have to do is identify the problem and make it work for you.

___THE SCARF___
Take any square scarf and tie it around your waist/hips for an instant hourglass silhouette. Bonus points if it has a black fringe and gives you señorita vibes.
My inspiration from this actually comes from the PPQ SS17 Show aptly titled "La Fiesta".
The PPQ woman being a retro-contemporary babe enveloped in vibrant silks and loud colour clashing.
Location: St Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield.
I took this picture from The Upcoming.co.uk (link to the article) and if you look closely- or just to the left- you can actually see me stealing the idea.
Mind. Blown.
Go ahead take a closer look, I'm next to Kimberley Garner's enviably tanned legs- the one wearing the Vetements bomber jacket du jour/2016.

Scarf: Vintage Pucci- similar here

___THE SHOES___
These shoes cost under £10 during the Primark sale (relatable™) Partly for their design, mostly for the hardware. They were the perfect mixture of my Toga Pulla boots, the Chloé's snakeskin Susanna boots I've been unable to purchase anywhere, and a simple summer sandal boot. Let me preface this by saying that you always, always, ALWAYS get what you pay for. I was aware that these would be seasonal-throwaway shoes from the very beginning- knowing that however much I paid for them would be worth it as I waited for the Great British Summer and my ever swelling feet to ruin them. But my feet didn't ruin them, in fact they ruined my feet. Covered in blisters and cuts, my feet healed and just as I put them in the bin pile... I remembered the almost nude hosiery trick from Edeline Lee's AW17 collection. (From the archive)
Naturally, I took a pair of nude tights (the ones that never quite matched your skin tone and you keep meaning to throw away) and repurposed them as off nude socks.

You're welcome!
