Rent the Runway Black Friday Sale

This post is in collaboration with Rent the Runway and contains affiliate links.
Perry Shiftby Elizabeth and James, Tortoise Paneled Minaudiere* by Halston Heritage.
Rent the Runway is helping out this party season, which is case you've been living under a rock- is well underway now. So this Black Friday get 25% off $75+ rentals at Rent the Runway using the code: RTRBF15 -Valid from 27-28th November 2015. Today, I'm here to tell you about my number one party look.
The little black dress is a party favourite, so keep your look fresh by using a lot of different details and textures. The Perry shift dress* uses a classic silhouette but adds an edge by using a feather trim. Find the Elizabeth and James collection at Rent the Runway to find classic pieces with a twist to your wardrobe, this party season.
This Rafé tortoise Minaudiere* is currently one of my favourite items on RTR's website, it's not only gorgeous but also a good size, it's structured enough to keep all of your belongings safe. The holidays are usually reserved for prom inspired "glamorous" bags, but I find that tortoiseshell adds the right amount of grown-up polish that rivals an embellished clutch.
Loeffler Randall Gigi Open Toe Booties, Pointed Ankle Boots by Choies*.
Since the bag is such a statement piece, the shoes can be a little bit tamer. A classic shoe is a great alternative to constantly going for bold throughout the season, and gives you the option of being comfortable at parties. With this there are two ways to go about it, a sandal or a boot. The open toe booties match the tortoise panels perfectly, whereas the pointed ankle boots* are a safer bet- but have a string tied detail at the front which give the outfit some complementary texture.

We had the best time visiting Lugano, it was my first time there so we tried to make the most of it. Unfortunately, we had the longest week and took our time off as a chance to unwind. Walk alongside the water and skim stones.

Antagoniste 'Ghost Garden' scarf, Hedrena skivvy, O by Oscar sunglasses, Luzz ear jackets, Michael Kors watch.
I wore a merino wool turtleneck from one of my favourite Aussie brands Hedrena. They are a family owned business from Geelong, Victoria and have sourced their wool locally for the last 23 years to create a superfine merino knit titled 'Hedramerino'. Some people don't really like wearing merino on the sensitive skin around their neck, so I brought along my 'Ghost Garden' silk scarf from Antagoniste*, you may have seen me style their stuff during the last couple of weeks (if not click through the tag here)- and I have to admit that this scarf is probably one of my favourite items by them.

Fenech and I both brought coats and jumpers with us but we didn't really need them until sundown, then we just layered up and retired to The View, where we relaxed for the rest of the evening.

H&M jacket, Guess bag, Clarks shoes.
We debated on whether to get a cable car to get around the pre-alps that surrounded us. Instead we decided to take the time to stroll and walked through Via Nassa and Via P- one of the best streets to shop in Lake Lugano, and get some coffee at one of the many cafés nearby Piazza Riforma. If there's one thing I have learnt about Lugano, is that they do not mess around when it comes to cup sizes- you have been warned!

Alla Città

Over-the-knee boots have been making the rounds for a couple of years now, but as a tiny human at 5'3", I've had to turn down a lot of beautiful samples as they ended ended half way up my high and mostly doubled up as some very fancy chaps. So as soon as I saw these little over-the-knee/ on-the-knee boots by Via Spiga I knew I had to get them. I was undecided between brown or cream boots so went to my cobbler to see what could be done to turn my boots into my boots, and we settled on a golden tan and shortened the tops by an inch so they hit my legs mid knee. Trying them on for the first time was a ridiculous experience, as I never thought I'd be able to see the inches that my legs are obviously missing.

Zara dress, Via Spiga boots, Guess bag, Topshop hat.
For those of you who are thinking of dying your suede goods, one thing to consider is that just like hair- it's a lot easier to go darker than it is lighter. It's always a good idea to go to the flagship shop and talk to a professional about dying them first, as they might be able to offer a custom dye job. Alternatively you could go to your local cobbler and talk about different dyes and processes, but if you're only going one or two shades lighter then it might be worth fading them by putting them near a window in the natural light.

While on the subject of boots, my dear friends at Pixie Footwear are having a Black Friday Sale from November 22-30th, offering 30% off sitewide, just use the discount code: BF30 at check out.

Quando a Lago di Como

Trina Turk 'Gizela' Dress, Via Spiga boots.
I'm making the most of this 4:57 pre-sunrise in wet hair and a cape. There was a time where I only ever wore shift dresses, and that part of me is very satisfied in this Gizela dress by Trina Turk, unfortunately sold out in most places, but still available here through Rent the Runway* for a fraction of the price. I've spoken about Rent the Runway before, and you've probably heard about it by now, but it really is a great way to get this season's designer goodies on a budget. (And many a US blogger's little secret) However, if you don't live in the US, there are still some good cape options from Co., ASOS, and La Mania. I paired them with my beloved Beline boots from Via Spiga but they are now mostly sold out in stores, so here is an alternative from Dolce Vita (online exclusive, and now at 25% off here), a huge steal from Steve Madden at under £90, or an alternative splurge with the Babe boots from Via Spiga (found here).

Don't forget that Rent the Runway currently has a Three for the price of one sale on rentals until November 25th. Here are a few things I'm thankful for*...

Stormy Weather

Plum of London Alpaca cowl c/o, Next jacket.
Always delighted to have this one as my storm companion. I recently wore this cowl during the weekend when the weather was slightly better, and spoke about Alpaca wool in a little bit more detail, so if you're new to the fabric, read the post hereThis Alpaca Cowl* would make a great present for a significant other, Fenech and I have been taking turns in wearing it since it fits so comfortably inside a coat collar. Remember that gift wrapping is included with every order- and shipping is free for the UK.
If you liked the cowl, view the full range on their official website, and be sure to check out Plum of London on their Twitter, and Facebook.

Let the Outside In

Spent the morning strolling through magical woodlands, dipping into hills, mountains. Luckily, my foliage friend is one of the best and happens to love getting lost as much as I do. The morning started off bright and beautiful but we had heard that the weather would turn in the next couple of hours so we made sure to wrap up warm in our best knitted gear from Plum of London.

Continuing with the skinny scarf trend, this super soft knit lets the quality speak for itself. I love that it has three different stripe widths, so it would be cool to see all the different looks you could create each time. You can get yours here where it's available in blue and turquoise, pink and plum, and orange and peach. (Pictured)

Plum of London hat c/o, Next coat.
Fen really took to wearing this Royal Alpaca beanie. It's got some subtle ribbed detailing, a fur pom-pom which we both loved, and it's the kind of quality that is thick enough to keep everything in place, but not so thick that you start to overheat since it's a lovely natural fibre. Our pom-pom beanie is available in orange, or blue with a thin orange trim, and is available here.
